All staff are selected for their caring, maturity, dedication, enthusiasm and their desire to work with children. Men and women are recruited from colleges and universities around the country, many of who are former Al-Gon-Quian campers. Our entire staff is CPR and First Aid certified and participate in an intensive training program that covers safety, supervision, counseling and camp procedures. A 1:6 ratio counselor to camper ensures that your child will receive the best care and attention. We also recruit qualified staff from around the world to promote diversity and give campers the opportunity to interact with other cultures first hand.
Applying to Camp Al-Gon-Quian
Employment applications are now available at the Ann Arbor YMCA front desk, by mail, email or can be downloaded below. If you would like an application emailed or mailed to you, please contact the camp office at: camping@annarborymca.org.
Please keep these dates in mind:
January 1st – Applications for administrative, program staff and support staff due
January – Interviews and hiring for administrative, program staff and support staff
January 31st – Applications for general staff due (late applications will be accepted to fill positions still open after January 31st)
February 1st – Interviews begin for general staff (in person interviews are preferred, but if necessary, phone interviews can be arranged) and reference letters are due.
February 15th – CIT and CIT II applications are due (late applications will be accepted to fill positions still open after February 15th) and reference letters are due
March – Camp staff selected, letters will be sent to all applicants
March 5th -10th, 12th-17th – CIT and CIT II interviews conducted
April 2nd – 6th – CIT and CIT II selections made; letters will be sent to all applicants
Please remember that all new applicants, Junior Counselor applicants, CIT and CIT II applicants must have three reference forms completed and returned prior to interviewing. These reference forms may not be completed by family members.
