Thank you for your interest in working at YMCA Camp Al-Gon-Quian. Finding quality staff is the key to having a good summer and each year we choose our AGQ team from students and graduates across the United States and around the world. Al-Gon-Quian staff members are part of a highly skilled team whose mission is to make children our number one priority.
While our cabins have all the modern conveniences of home, it is community living and the staff members share their space with campers and co-counselors. We look for self-motivated people with personality, character, maturity, charisma, and most importantly a sincere desire to be a positive role model for children. Staff members bring energy and excitement to a program of challenging and creative activities for youth and teens. In the role of camp counselor you will be developing and demonstrating values such as honesty, caring, respect, responsibility and leadership – characteristics which are highly regarded by future employers.
This work is demanding of your time, energy and emotions, and requires a great deal of self-motivation, patience and creativity. It takes the kind of person who can have a positive attitude, anywhere at anytime. This job, without question, will be one of most challenging positions you will ever hold. It is essentially a 24 hour a day job full of laughter and sometimes tears. The family spirit that develops among the staff is literally amazing. Leaving at the end of the summer if often an emotional time for the people who made it their summer home.
Our pay is competitive, but please remember that working at a summer camp is an experience that lasts a lifetime and the pay will never equal what that is worth.
Camp Al-Gon-Quian is a special place, not only for the children that attend, but the staff as well.
